Project Overview



  1. 1.Elements and Principles of Design. An exploratory book created through hands on exercises that  develop an understanding of the elements and principles of design.

  2. 2.Graphic Design in Our World.  An investigation and development of logos, advertisement, poster, brochure and magazine design and layout. This includes exploring typography as well design layout.

  3. 3.Children’s Book Illustrations and Layout. A 5 to 10 page illustrated and constructed original children’s book using your favorite style of illustrating. Includes bookmaking ideas and demos.  Books can be create using either hand drawings or computer generated original drawings. The newest version of Mac-book Pro Computers and Drawing tablets are available  to use in your explorations.

  4. 4.Experimentation with Digital cameras, Graphic Tablet, IBooth, CS4 through Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. A series of digitally photographed self portraits using Andy Warhol and Creative Suite 3 as our inspiration.

  5. 5.Perspective.  An understanding of how space is created in design using and manipulating traditional one, two and three point perspective. Historical architectural buildings and airbrush techniques may be added to enhance final product and design.

  6. 6.Multi-Media manipulation experiments. Reviewing the basic drawing and painting strategies used by artists and designers for centuries.  Various modern art methods of developing and changing an imagine through art synectics will also be addressed.

  7. 7.Silk screen tee-shirt printing or printing on other fabrics.

  8. 8.Airbrush experiments and stencil project. Stencil experiments can also be created on fabrics and on tee-shirts.

  9. 9.Traditional printmaking techniques. Includes: linocut, monoprint, basic stencils, collagraghs, woodcuts,  and emboss. 

  10. 10.Cartooning - Including drawing for animation, story-boarding using art materials and comic book and digital book creations. Art created through a series of moving art works which can lead to an introduction to animation and video.

  11. 11.Designing beyond borders.  Includes painting hats, clothing, furniture, tables,  and other objects in our environment.

  12. 12.Poster Designing. Designing a poster for promotion of either a school event or a community event.

  13. 13.Traditional grid drawing and other methods for enlarging images to be realistically drawn and painted.  Grid drawing patterns will also be discussed.

  14. 14.Art and it’s impact on advertising in the community.  Choose a business as a model  and design it’s logo, letterhead, business envelopes and street sign.  Create a brochure, poster, yellow page ad and use any other artistic ideas to promote this business. Bonus marks or independent study: make a television advertisement through video. Use digital camera, video camera, Mac-book pro computers, Creative Suite 3  and internet whenever necessary.

  15. 15.Art Card Collector’s Club. Create original art cards. Scan them, trade them, send them, post them on the web and connect with art card creator’s all across the world.

Total Mark: The student total mark is added together and will be out of:              /25

Marking Key: 5 is the highest possible mark – excellence, 4 is very good and almost perfect, 3 is done by a student who works hard, like the others, however this student may not totally grasp the exercise, perhaps this student is tried or late or sick and missed a little of the introduction or critique of the project, 2 is an incomplete, perhaps the student worked on the project for a day or two but was absent or late during key learning of concepts and wasn’t fully engaged enough (just didn’t care) to finish the project, 1 is usually caused by absence, sickness, laziness or lack of organization.****Effort and Organization are essential ingredients necessary in success.
